WHPP joins the IIHF’s #InspireTheNext Campaign
22nd March 2023, Ljubljana – The Women’s Hockey Partnership for Progress project, together with national ice hockey associations of Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia supports the International Ice Hockey Federation’s campaign Inspire The Next which was officially launched today.
The campaign is aimed to inspire women to get involved in ice hockey, both on and off the ice. The main objective of the campaign is to elevate the stories within the women’s game in terms of participation, awareness, and professional opportunities. While women’s ice hockey has grown in participation by almost 30,000 registered players in the past five years, the IIHF continues to work on recruiting the next generation of women in the game, whether players, officials, and coaches, or other supporting roles. Although the female game has made advances around the globe, the growing popularity of team sports among girls and women still offers numerous undeveloped opportunities.
The objectives of the #InspireTheNext campaign go hand-in-hand with the objectives of the WHPP project to promote and advance the game of women’s ice hockey within the Danube region. Over the next three year various events and activities in the region will be organized contributig to these goals – one of them already next month when the city of Maribor will host 1st WHPP Ice Hockey Festival and Academy.
